Tamed the Dragon
We hit the Tail of the Dragon right around midnight, and I got a good clean run at it. It truly is an awesome piece of road when you have it to yourself. I did catch up to a guy in a Mustang, but he was cool and pulled off to let me by. (I suspect he was a little embarrassed when he saw that he'd just been passed by a Yaris!) We stopped at the crossroads and chatted with some of the locals who were hanging there. (It didn't dawn on me until about an hour later that it was very likely the infamous "Killboy" and "Killgirl") I offered to drive back down the mountain (such a sacrifice for me... hah!) and let Jeff make a full run up the mountain, but he declined. It is admittedly an intimidating road in the dark if you've not driven it before. So, I handed him the keys and he drove the more tame end of the Dragon into Robbinsville, we got gas, and he drove us most of the way to Atlanta while I slept.
We're making good time on the trip home and should be there by about noon. I get to take an afternoon nap on my couch! How cool is that? (it's the simple things in life, yano?)
